Biography

Olga Tokarczuk was born on January 29, 1962, Sulechów, Poland, she is one of Poland’s most popular authors. She is also a poet, screenwriter, essayist and worked formerly as a Psychologist. Attended the University of Warsaw from 1980 to 1985 where she formerly obtains a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. Besides being so talented, she’s also a mother of one son.

Tokarczuk is an author of eight novels and three short story collections. Her most famous novel include Primeval (1996) which is considered by many Olgas best work, House of Day, House of Night (1998). Flight published in 2007 and won the 2018 Man Booker International Prize. Winner of both the 2015 Nike Award and the Kulturhuset International Literary Prize, The Books of Jacob depicts a unique moment in Polish history, in which a notable population of East European Jews converted to Christianity. Though some of the stories reflect her life, childhood, and views about the world, the majority arise from her interactions with the people she meets on her various journeys. Recurring themes include physical movement, the human body, and the definition of home.

Olga Tokarczuk lives in Wroclaw in Poland where she is setting up a Foundation which will offer scholarships for writers and translators and educational programmers on literature.
